Treatment of Children and Teenagers
Play Therapy
Play therapy, or therapeutic play, as we often call it, is considered today a widespread form of child psychotherapy, which is now accompanied by a large number ofresearches and psychological theories referred to in it. On the basis of the latest research conducted by the British Association of Play Therapists, 71% of children who are referred to play therapy, show positive changes.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Through this approach, the child / the teenager learns to understand his or her difficulties in a very useful way. From the beginning of the therapy, we will understand the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behavior. In other words, he or she learns that our feelings and actions are influenced by the thoughts we have previously developed. For this reason, we train the child to identify the thoughts that are not at all helpful to him or her, causing unpleasant feelings, and to replace them with other, which are more useful. The child is also urged to make use of time while having meetings so that he or she can experiment and explore the new solutions we have found, always depending on the therapeutic plan.
As a result, children acquire great management tools, shaping a more positive and appropriate way of thinking that will help them cope with the difficulties they have in this very moment, as well as those that they are likely to encounter in the future.
The therapy is effective in a wide range of problems such as:
- Separation Anxiety
- Other Anxiety Disorders (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Panic Disorder, Selective Mutism, etc.)
- School Refusal
- Fears
- Deficits in social and communication skills
- Difficulty to handle unpleasant emotions (anger management)
- Behavioral problems of children and teenagers
- Depression
Psycho-pedagogical assistance
This intervention aims to strengthen the mental health of the child / the teenager. For this purpose, we use techniques targeted to improve behavior by appropriately expressing and managing emotions, to enhance a positive self-image, to expand social skills, etc.
At the same time parents are consulted to achieve better communication between family members.
